Luis Rubio Rodrigo has several titles on his name card, including managing director of Zeumart Taizhou, coordinator of Business Forum China-Spain and representative of University of Zaragoza in China.
But what he cherishes most is being “an envoy to promote the friendly exchange between Jiangsu and Spain”, a role that he has played well enough and earned him "Honorary Citizen of Taizhou City."
Luis came to Taizhou from his hometown Zaragoza, Spain in 2004, and founded the first Spanish-owned real estate developer in the city, which has built more than 2,000 houses featuring the distinctive Spanish design.
With the efforts of Luis, Regina Lázaro, Vice-Rector of University of Zaragoza, visited Taizhou University in 2015 and the two sides signed an agreement of cooperation.
He also worked with University of Zaragoza in launching the Confucius Institute, the 8th such institute in Spain which opened in 2017.
In 2018, Luis helped reach the cooperation framework agreement between Spain's Eurofund and China Medical City, with the aim of building a large-scale complex that integrates shopping mall, amusement facilities and tourism.
Luis recalled that when he came to Taizhou in 2004, the traffic was not good and there were few street lights in downtown area. Congestion happened a lot at rush hours. Today Taizhou boasts convenient transportation and rapid economic growth.
