On the morning of Apr. 15, Mr. Tony Sansotta, a Canadian professor who initiated the river clean-up activity “Mother River, Mother’s Day” in Nanjing, addressed the launching ceremony of college students volunteer activity "Qinhuai River Clean-up 2018”, calling on the public to protect the environment and make China more beautiful.
托尼是南京大学外语学院外教,他已经连续三年组织大学生志愿者到南京秦淮河边清理垃圾。
Tony is now teaching writing and spoken English at Nanjing University. He has participated in the river clean-up activity for three consecutive years.
On May 7, 2016, one day before Mother’s Day, about 200 Nanjing University students participated in the event “Mother River, Mother’s Day”, picking up garbage, cleaning river banks and keeping waterways clean.
In 2017, one more university joined the event.
And this year, with the support of government, some 1,100 students from 10 colleges and universities participated in the event.
Tony came to Nanjing in 2010 and his wife is from Yangzhou, Jiangsu province.
“Taking the place as my second hometown, I’ve long been ready to do something helpful and meaningful. That explains why I was determined to organize the event. I believe if we do it for one day, maybe the others can do another different day. Then the river will be clean all the time,” Tony said.
“We all need to do our part to make a better environment and a more beautiful home.”
