Nanjing Gold Foil is a national intangible cultural heritage originated in the area of Longtan Garden in Qixia District of Nanjing. One gram of gold can be made into about 0.5 square meter of pure gold foil with a thickness of 0.12um. “In Chinese history, gold foil was often used to make costumes for the royal family. It was also used in many ancient buildings in China. More than 2.47 million pieces of gold foil have been used in the restoration of the Imperial Palace since 2002,” said Ge Caijin, municipal-level inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage.
